From Prescription to Treatment

Phothera is Here to Help

Once you prescribe at-home Phothera phototherapy, our team helps navigate the next steps—from insurance verification and prior authorization to device delivery and ongoing support.

*Not an actual patient or provider

At Phothera, we recognize that even the most effective treatment plans can be undermined by real-world barriers. Too often, patients delay initiation or discontinue therapy due to cost, access challenges, or administrative hurdles—leaving chronic dermatologic conditions suboptimally managed.

You prescribe. We help take it from there.

Phothera works with your practice and patients to help simplify access to prescribed home phototherapy. Our team provides support throughout the process, helping reduce administrative burden on your staff and keep patients moving toward treatment.

From mitigating costly out-of-pocket expenses, education, or navigating insurance denials, Phothera Cares ensures every patient has a path forward to the care they deserve.

Depending on eligibility and coverage, support through Phothera Cares may include:

  • Eligible patients could pay as little as $0 out of pocket*
  • The program is applicable to eligible insured patients
  • Patients may receive a follow-up bill for co-pays, yet Phothera does not send patients to collections
  • Phothera manages all prior authorization on your behalf
  • Any denials and the appeals processes are managed by Phothera
  • Dedicated Billing and Access team to improve coverage
  • Free shipping directly to the patient’s home

Setting Patient Expectations

It is important to set expectations and educate patients about their treatment journey. Use these steps to understand what happens before, during, and after you prescribe Phothera.

Clinical Considerations Before Prescribing

To maximize treatment outcomes from the start, providers should:

  • Determine a patient’s Fitzpatrick skin type
  • Consider Minimal Erythemal Dose (MED) testing
  • Monitor response and tolerance over time
  • Educate patients on photoprotection and treatment compliance, including potential injuries

Other helpful tips to share with patients during and after treatment:

  • Recommend for the patient to take images before, during, and after to document improvements
  • Patients can report any injuries during treatment to support.phothera.com
  • Patients can also call the Phothera Customer Support line for any questions about their prescription at 1-419-636-6304
  • Any questions regarding specifics to a treatment plan should be handled by the prescribing physician

*$0 patient cost applies to eligible insured patients. Not all patients will qualify.
